Finding Motivation

Its been a few months since I post last entry, and there’s a few reasons to it. One being is that I’ve been really focused on my daytime job, making sure I’m doing the job right and focusing on having a decent income in. Another reason is that the freelance work has really taking a down turn and I’ve found myself just shooting a few bands every Saturday night in my friends bar.The problem I seem to have is the struggle of promoting myself, getting myself out there and showing people what I can do. Even the daily struggle of posting a great photo I took on social media like Facebook and Instagram, seems to lack and reaction. Ideally I should really be focusing on social media, but It seems to be the best platform to get people to notice my work. I get friends asking why don’t I try and setup a market stalls showing off my work. While it is a great idea, I really don’t have the funds to have my work printed out and shown. I did have a thought about working with other photographers to share a stall, but like myself my other photographer mates the struggle of actually getting your work printed out can be expensive.
The problem I face is when there’s little work coming is that I start losing motivation. Most of the people I’ve worked with I don’t really do the photography for the money but for the chance of capturing special moments and scenes. When I don’t have that work come in, I don’t really have anything to focus on with the camera. The last few weeks have had me doing a lot of walking down the beach coast near where I live, to just get a bit of exercise in. While I tend to try to capture at least one good image each time, it’s becomes tiresome when you don’t that inspiration to capture something different each time. Even the 360 photography I mentioned in my last post, I struggle to capture a new prespective on things.
So what next? Well I decided to go back to my roots a little and get back to trying to be more experimental with with the camera. This is where I first started, so I’m hoping i can find a sliver of inspiration and get motivated again. I’ve also start talking to some old models friends, who have helped me in the past just so that I have something shoot. Another idea is to maybe setup some photography walks with my friends around Newcastle and other areas. By working with my friends we can learn off each other and gain new experiences.
So in a way I am finding motivation. Just need to decide where I am heading next.
